Acne….It’s Not Just For Teens

One less known fact about acne is that it can occur at any time, not only in those unpredictable teen years, but it can happen to someone at any time in their life span, including middle age. Most people have thought of this as a teenage ailment, but it spans generations. It is terribly disheartening for some people who have fought a losing battle with acne to find out that they may have a recurrence of it yet again.

There are numerous acne treatments and not all of them work, and not all of them will work for everyone. Acne treatments fall into a category of trial and error and hit and miss. It may take dozens of tries to find something that helps, and this results in exasperation and despair. There are lots of soaps, astringents and other topical agents that can be used with some success on less severe acne outbreaks, but this type of treatment is of little use for the heavy outbreaks.

No matter the age, acne occurs relentlessly and is usually occurring along with increased stress and other increased hormone levels. Changing your diet and lifestyle to a more stress free and healthy one can have a beneficial effect in dealing with an outcropping of acne. Two other hints are to limit those foods that contain large amounts of oils and to drink more water in order to help flush out toxins and wastes from your body.

Cortisol is a hormone that is produced in reaction to stress and acne has been associated with increased cortisol levels. This stress may occur for numerous reasons. As we get older we do not deal with stress as well and our bodies can not handle cortisol as well either. It is a good idea to try to keep our stressors as low as we can or figure some method to mitigate them.

Yoga is one of the greatest stress relievers to be found. If yoga is practiced on a daily basis is will reduce cortisol levels. This is a good choice of activity for people of all ages too. Yoga is very useful for people who find it hard to slow down and relax.

It is very important to remember that acne is not a vanity issue, it is a disease and it can a severe impact on people both physically and emotionally so it should be treated in an aggressive manner.Effective, simple methods such as dietary changes, and reducing stress can help and these changes should always be implemented.
